Grameenphone launches 325 KWp solar facility at Sylhet Data Centre
Grameenphone recently activated a 325 kilowatt-peak solar power plant situated within its Sylhet Data Centre. The project was executed by Grameenphone with ZTE acting as the engineering, procurement, and construction partner. This facility includes 450 high-efficiency solar panels designed to meet energy requirements sustainably. Yasir Azman, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, led the inauguration ceremony alongside top leadership from Grameenphone and ZTE Bangladesh. Attendees included Abul Kasem Mohiuddin Al-Amin as Chief Technology Officer, Otto Magne Risbakk as Chief Financial Officer, Farha Naz Zaman as Chief Marketing Officer, and Mao Junyong as ZTE’s Chief Executive Officer.
The operational capacity of this new plant is set to produce more than 300 megawatt-hours of electricity on an annual basis. According to the company’s official statement, this shift to clean energy will result in the reduction of roughly 188 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. By incorporating renewable sources into its data centre operations, Grameenphone seeks to minimize its environmental impact. The initiative simultaneously addresses the increasing need for digital connectivity and services through the deployment of greener infrastructure. This move highlights the telecommunications firm’s commitment to sustainability while ensuring reliable power for its critical digital operations.
