Why travelers choose Fatikchhari’s ‘Selfie Road’
Jobaer Hossen, a 33-year-old from Hathazari in Chattogram, arrived at Fatikchhari after spotting images of the spot online. Known locally as ‘Selfie Road’, the location features a narrow path shaded by mature rubber trees. His initial goal was simply to capture photos, yet nearly an hour there revealed a deeper attraction. He noted that while digital images appear perfect, the real value lies in the silence, cool breeze, and lush greenery found on site.
Situated within the government-owned Dantmara rubber estate and running along the Chattogram-Khagrachhari highway, this route has quietly transformed into a nature destination. Throughout the day, weekends and holidays see crowds of friends, families, and couples arriving to explore. The primary draw is the road itself, lined with tall trees that offer shade for strolling or photography. Rakib Hossain, a college student visiting from Raozan with companions, admitted their main plan was shooting pictures. However, once they arrived, they spent significantly more time walking and enjoying the environment than taking shots.
Residents confirm that visitor numbers have risen steadily over the years. Alamgir Hossain, who runs a tea stall near the entrance, recalled that only a handful of outsiders visited several years ago. Today, people arrive almost weekly, swelling into large groups during holidays. This surge has boosted local commerce, with vendors selling snacks and beverages now depending partly on tourist traffic. Jobaer reflected on the shift in perspective before departing. He realized that while the motivation started as photography, the true reason for the visit is the desire to spend time close to nature.
